SHARON DARLEY

Board member

Trained at Chelsea School of Art, Shaz is a visual artist with wide-ranging experience in socially engaged arts, underpinned by 20-years’ working within a variety of non-arts community development contexts.

As a mature student, she recently completed an Open University BA in Arts & Humanities with Classical History; and is currently studying an MSc in Development Management.  Having grown up in rural poverty, Sharon’s work within communities is vocational. Her personal experience has given her a deep belief that access to arts and culture improves quality of life, aspiration and opportunity; she also understands that the world is not an equal place.

Sharon’s previous roles include East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Hull and East Yorkshire MIND and most recently Quality of Life Manager with the Goodwin Development Trust in Hull. Whilst at Goodwin, Sharon produced two of the iconic community-led arts installations during Hull UK City of Culture 2017: ‘I Wish To Communicate With You’ & ‘Terrace Enders’.

Sharon recently said a friendly goodbye to Goodwin to become freelance and develop her own practice as an Artist, and Socially Engaged Arts Practitioner.  Sharon recently became an ‘Active Citizen’ with the British Council & Hull City Council; and is currently Lead/Concept-Artist with Artlink Hull and Back To Ours on the ‘True Colours of Spring Bank’, an arts & culture-focused, community-led project, with big ambitions.
