Casting call for a transfemme singer and performer

We are looking for a transfemme singer and performer to join our next show, a cabaret of songs about reconnecting, called we used to be closer than this, to be performed 16-18 July 2021. The performer will be required to sing solo as well as within an ensemble. Proficiency with instruments is a bonus, but not a requirement.

Middle Child welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of their age, sex, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability or nationality.

How to apply

Please email your application to with ‘Middle Child Casting’ in the subject header before Friday 25 June at 5pm with the following:

  • Performance CV and/or Spotlight link;
  • An existing video of you singing; or
  • A recording of you singing a verse and chorus of a song of your choice. This can be accompanied or unaccompanied.

About the show

we used to be closer than this is a collection of cabaret songs about reconnecting, penned by eight of the most exciting writers from Hull and beyond.

Performed in the open air, Middle Child return to the stage this summer with a toe-tapping, hand-clapping celebration of the human touch.

Rehearsals and shows will take place in Hull. Travel and accommodation will be provided.


An inclusive fee of £1076.62, in line with ITC rates.

Covid health and safety

Rehearsals and performances will take place in person in Hull, in-line with the government’s latest roadmap.

All participants will be provided with the appropriate PPE and social distancing guidance will be followed.
